Relive the action from the epic prelude to the Vendée Globe with the official film from the Vendée-Arctique-Les Sables d’Olonne Race. This unprecedented race in extreme conditions and fierce battles between skippers provided a glimpse into what they could expect from the main event later this year.
This unique race was born out of the rather special situation created by the global health crisis. Till this point sailors had not competed in a single-handed race for more than a year. In this Vendée Globe year, where it’s crucial to test your preparation if you are to take on the round the world race with confidence, the health crisis created obstacles for all the qualifying programmes. And ultimately two single-handed transatlantic races had to be cancelled. It was within this context that the Vendée-Arctique-Les Sables d’Olonne was created after several weeks of joint deliberation between the IMOCA Class, the sailors and the Vendée Globe protagonists. The race was organised by the IMOCA Class and Sea to See, and it provided the perfect environment for preparation of the main event in 4 months time.
