No sooner had the 36th America’s Cup winner been decided, the announcement came that INEOS Team UK would be the official Challenger of Record. We suspected that talks were taking place between the two teams leading up to the final day of racing. As the Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand has moved to keep the country’s top sailing talent out of the clutches of America’s Cup competitors.

INEOS Team UK are out of the America’s Cup! They fought valiantly but they just couldn’t shake the Challenger of Record, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli. The Italians sailed a flawless regatta and will now meet Emirates Team New Zealand in the America’s Cup match. This will be the second time in their 6 attempts that they have made it to the America’s Cup Match itself.

The fastest America’s Cup event in 170 years starts in Auckland, New Zealand on 17th December. The PRADA America’s Cup World Series runs from 17-19th December and the PRADA Christmas Race is on Sunday 20th. The Race Village was opened on Tuesday amid wonderful traditional fanfare.

Tech Tuesday: Technology Meets Sustainability With Ineos Team UK

To date, the recycled carbon fibre convertor, ELG Carbon Fibre has processed over 1.2 tonnes of the teams waste materials and used these fibres to produce two cradles for the race boat ‘Britannia’. Moulds for the hull and deck regions of the team’s test boat ‘T5’ were also manufactured using the same technology.
