Southern Power’s story started in 1974. The company has grown from strength to strength to become one of the preferred companies to serve the marine and mobile vehicle solutions industries in Southern Africa. We asked Independent Executive Business Leader / Strategist Jacques Brϋmmer to contextualize the company’s success.
Who is Jacques Brϋmmer?
I am a salesperson at heart who loves engaging with clients and finding solutions to their needs. I love the outdoors and am very conscious of the environment
Part of the companies rebrand exercise is to focus on products that contribute to lessening the harmful impact on our environment. Southern Power’s vision is to reduce harmful impact on the environment and support our principal partners in the development of less environmentally harmful and ultimately emission-free products. We strive to ensure the safety of our beautiful planet for generations to come.
What makes Southern Power different from other competitors?
Southern Power is a small but agile company that is passionate about what they do. We believe in fair business practicethat creates sustainabilityand contributes to the success of our clients.
I am inspired by the Patagonian philosophy found in the book ‘Let my people surf’ and as a result I am focused on filtering each business decision through a strategy lens that ensures Southern Power will still be in business in 100 years. This is a diversion from common businessespractise that is often focused on exponential sales growth and maximising profit every year.
What excites you the most about where this company is heading?
After 9 years in the marine industry, I am still excited daily by the opportunities that are presented. Southern Power has embarked on expanding their product portfolio and their distribution network for some products across Sub-Saharan Africa. The company is working hard at securing new Volvo Penta IPS commercial builds in South Africa which will be a first. This will position SA commercial boat builders as serious contenders in the global marine market. Torqeedo, Whisperpower, and OXE are developing exciting and broader product ranges that will cater to a growing number of environmentally conscious customers.
Are you planning to bring any new brands for the marine industry or mobile solutions in near future?
Southern Power is continuously expanding their product portfolio. They have just launched a few new innovative brands in line with a strong environmentally conscious approach. They include an environmentally friendly antifouling system SONIHULL, marine water makers – FCI and grey-water treatment systems – HEADHUNTERS.
Do you have a presence in Africa or planning any further expansion into Africa?
Southern Power has numerous African distributors for their specific brands across Angola, Nigeria, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Namibia but are searching for more partners across the continent that share the same ethos as the company do and are committed to serving their customers and the planet.
