Luna Rossa Reaches The America’s Cup

INEOS Team UK are out of the America’s Cup! They fought valiantly but they just couldn’t shake the Challenger of Record, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli. The Italians sailed flawlessly in the Prada Cup Final regatta to win 7-1. They meet Emirates Team New Zealand in the America’s Cup match – the second time in their 6 attempts that they have made it to the America’s Cup itself. We look back at some remarkable moments between Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli and INEOS Team UK.

Comeback kids

Let’s not forget the remarkable come-back by INEOS Team UK after a disastrous Christmas Regatta. That kind of determination and never give-up attitude goes a long way when competing at this level. They would never have managed to win the Round Robins and move straight the Prada Cup Final if it weren’t for this approach.

Speaking after the last day of Prada Cup action Ben Ainslie said, “Firstly, I have to say well done to Luna Rossa and well done to Italy. It’s a big deal in Italy getting to the America’s Cup Match again. Congratulations to Jimmy [Spithill], Cecco [Francesco Bruni] and the whole team. They had the better overall package across the range of wind conditions and deserved to take the Final.

“Of course, we are disappointed, but I could not be prouder of the team and how they have dealt with the challenges we have faced over the past four years, and especially since we’ve been here in New Zealand. Every single person in this team worked incredibly hard to turn things around from where we were before Christmas to make the PRADA Cup Final and I’m really proud of that.
