Day 3 of the Cape 31 Summer series saw light airs, flat waters and tight racing along the beautiful Atlantic seaboard.
Six Cape 31’s took to the water in the third event of 2021. Although the wind was light, and sailing was a lot slower than the normally fast-paced dash around Table Bay, it still allowed for very close racing.
Top of the leader board in the Summer Series overall is Magic on 12 points, followed by Orion on 18 points and Nitro on 22 points.
Results are after 2 discards.
Matthew du Toit was on the water to capture the racing and took these great pictures.
It’s encouraging to see so many young sailors competing in the event, which after all was behind Irvine Laidlaw’s motivation to create a fast sportboat that would appeal to young sailors.
Heading North
David Bartholomew and David Sweete have secured the agency for the Cape 31 in the UK. In a short space of time they have taken 3 boats to the Solent from South Africa as re-sales, and 3 are on order as new builds.
They are gearing up for a competitive sailing season, and we can’t wait to see our Cape 31 in action up north!
