Boatica Cape Town will play host to The Great Optimist Race at the V&A Waterfront on Saturday 29th October from 12h30pm.

Brainchild of the event and founder of the Little Optimist Trust, Greg Bertish said, “We’re delighted that The Great Optimist race is back on the water again in 2022. This years’ event is set to be fast paced and action packed with an exclusive group of handpicked sailors, survivors, celebrities and captains of industry taking to the water to raise funds for various deserving charities.”

Riaan Manser, writer, thrill seeker and modern day explorer will take the helm of one of the little Optimists. “It’s a privilege to have someone as accomplished as Riaan volunteer his time for this amazing cause,” says Bertish.

Two time winner, Caleb Swanepoel will be back to defend his title, with Pippa Hudson (702) and Matt Bromley of Big Wave Surfers and Over the Edge fame being added to the fleet.

What is The Great Optimist Race?

The event raises funds for sick and needy children in the Western Cape. Celebrities, sports stars and survivors are matched with a charity to raise funds for that specific charity. The race consists of a three-lap course through the V & A Waterfront.

In 2020 celebrities, sportsman and survivors came together to raise awareness and funds in the form of a Global Challenge where Optimists were raced in various locations around SA.
