The latest in gear | Summer 2019

We had a look at some top brands to see what was new in foul weather gear for this summer. Here are some things to look out for:

1. Ullman Sails Gear Range

Ullman has some exciting news for this season of sailing – an all-new range of up-cycled and recycled products of high quality with better environmental value. The idea behind their up-cycled range is to make use of the offcuts from sail-making to minimise their waste, creating products such as their Barrel bag.

For their recycled range, Ullman have partnered up with KWay and The World Wildlife Fund to develop a stylish Eco Puffer and Extreme Weather Softshell both made from recycled PET bottles. The collaboration has developed a dual zip which allows the jackets to zip into each other, creating an extreme weather system that is waterproof and windproof. By purchasing the foul weather gear system, you are directly supporting WWF, thus all proceeds go to nature conservation.

Along with sailing jackets, Ullman is in the process of creating foul weather pants for sailors, also made from fully recycled materials. The Narrow Channelled Hooded Eco Puffer, and the Extreme Weather Seamsealed Eco Softshell Jacket.

Ullman Sails Gear will be launching online on Monday, 8 November 2019, so be sure to visit their site to view the full eco foul weather gear system.

2. Musto Sailing Gear

Musto is a world-leading brand for sailing clothing, and their current range certainly meets expectations. Recommended for any sailing, whether a bay race or offshore expedition are the BR2 Race Shorts, a waterproof and breathable design made for summer sailing and wet decks. Self-fabric seat panels increase its hardwearing design, a definite stand-out feature of this garment. The Musto BR1 Coastal Jacket is a great entry-level sailing jacket for all ocean enthusiasts. Providing all the protection you need against the elements, it features double cuffs and a drawcord hem to keep you dry.

If offshore sailing is in your near future, the BR2 Offshore Trousers are a necessity. Fleece-lined pockets, a waterproof gusset, a multi-tool pouch and wear-resistant seat and knee patches are some shining features of this great piece of foul weather gear.

You can find the BR2 Offshore Trousers, the BR1 Coastal Jacket and the BR2 Race Shorts at Central Boating.
