Cape 31 End of Season Regatta

END OF SEASON CAPE 31

It was a wet and breezy start to the ‘End of Season Cape 31 Regatta’. Although light airs on day 2 provided the teams with a challenge too. The event produced mixed results, and in the end it came down to consistent crew work and tactics to secure the podium positions.

It was a difficult sailing season for the Cape 31 Class. Organising events during the pandemic has been a big challenge.

“Well done and thank you to all. It has been a tough year of sailing”, said Class Chairman, Bjorn Geiger.

The overall season results were calculated by combining the results of the Summer Series, the Catch-Up Series of the 2020 season, and the End of Season regatta.

It was Magic sailed by Roger Hudson and Malcom Hall who took the overall season win, followed by Nitro sailed by Mike Hayton and David Rae in second. Davey James and Ellien Perch took third place with Orion DYP.

Matthew du Toit was on the water to capture the action. See a selection of his pics below.

Overall Season Results

Northern hemisphere sailing

The southern hemisphere season may be over, but now its the northern hemisphere’s turn. A strong fleet of Cape 31’s is already sailing in the Solent, and they are already stacking up the podium positions. 8 boats are expected to compete in the UK sailing season in 2021. There’s even interest from the international fleets to compete in the Caribbean circuit in 2022. Watch this space.

Francois Kuttel’s Cape 31, Privateer is racking up the firsts in Louisiana too. The Cape 31 has gone global and is providing desirable results all over the globe.
